Life Metaphors for GOM

GOM is a natural process

If a child can learn to crawl, then walk, then run, it makes sense to assume that we are specialized machines that are naturally constructive. A crawling child cannot decide one day that it will not walk. The child is not programmed with the ability to deny a natural built-in goal. 

The same analogy applies throughout our lives. Each person is unique and designed to progress. We start 100% dependent then grow to allow another to be 100% dependent on us.

Climbing the learning stairway

Life provides a stairway to climb and learn. Each step is there to grow you, never destroy you. We land on a step at the exact time that we have the skills to solve the puzzle of the step. You can go sideways, backwards or climb up to the next step. At times sitting on the step is a right decision. 

Will solutions come screaming at you? Sometimes, yes. Tough puzzles require hard work to resolve. Any step can be full of pain or love or happy times and mistakes. BUT, I believe, whether you like it or not, you will move to the next level. 

It is on this stairway I landed on GOM and now I am able to articulate the adventure. 

I reflect on three issues that were complex for me: the pandemic, high school, and being a father. 

The pandemic is a complex problem of nature. A vaccine becomes available for use within a year. It is amazing what can be accomplished with a crisp goal, pointed organization and the strong motivation to solve a global problem. Rub in some competition to stimulate action and we have a powerful human response.

In high school everything about me was changing as my brain was rewiring. This was a time of overwhelming new steps and inevitable trips and falls. It was during this reorganization I climbed the greatest number of steps. 

I am a father. Overcoming the fear of failure was a maturing step. Stuff happened, dots joined and we grew up and did our best. I am proud of the motivated women my “little” girls have become.

The art of living life is an adventure of exploration. The idea that we are free to choose a goal and a path puts the full onus on each person to define their actions and beliefs. 

Personal motivation provides energy to the soul to move us.
